Source Document Microfilming

Source Document Microfilming is the process
of filming paper document or files, in a permanent and legally acceptable
form, for the retrieval or reproduction, to reduce archival storage space
and increase retrieval time. Images can reside on 16mm rollfilm, or fiche
jackets, filmed with rotary, planetary or rotoline cameras, and can be
viewed on a standard reader or printed on a standard reader/printer. LSI
invests in the latest state-of-the-art technology, such as Kodak Image
Link, and Cannon Canofile (Planetary) cameras.
LSI can provide on or off site service to accommodate the customer.
Computer Aided Retrieval (CAR)
When documents are microfilmed to a roll of film, a small blip is
placed under, and the frame number above each image. The documents'
indexing details and the film and frame reference are then captured in a
computer database. Linking this database to a frame search reader printer,
the film can be driven to the exact location and a paper copy produced in
a few seconds.
Computer Output to Microfilm (COM)
LSI provides Computer Output to Microfilm (COM) services. The
electronic transformation of computer generated information from magnetic
tape to 105mm microfiche or 16mm microfilm.

COM offers many advantages that assist agencies with efficient office
operations and sound records management.
The newest COM technology provides superior image quality for improved
user productivity. Such features as enhanced titling, enlarged file
breaks, and bar-coding make access and filing easier. Improved quality
means reader/printer copies that are legible.
LSI's COM software programmers develop applications for the recorders, and
then perform test runs of the software and hardware to establish
compliance with the customer requirements.
